“The wild is the approaching dark mass of an outside set, and it is the unseen but very real possibility of moving shapes in the water close around us”~ Drew Kampion, The Way of the Surfer
I am Jody, wife to Bill and mom to 4 kiddos, ages 19 (boy), 16(boy), 13(boy) and 9(girl…holy cow). We are a surfing family that live along the Texas coast, and spend most of our free time at the beach. (Except our 16yo who loathes all things sandy and salty. We have no idea where he came from.) I swim, bike, run for fun and love to do extreme sports. Bill said “It isn’t fun for you unless it is a death march”. Ahem. So true.
But that would be the pot calling the kettle black, Bill.

The apples don’t fall far from the trees either:
Originally from Galveston, Texas, we lived inland for almost 12 years raising our kids in a small Texas town with a brewery. Life in that small town were some of the best years of our life. My kids experienced a childhood that was much like a Norman Rockwell painting.
But the call of the waves was just too appealing. Our weekend adventures to the beach in our 5th Wheel proved too much like a tease, so in 2007 we moved to the coast and it became a full time life for us.
There is a saying here in our beach town. We say it during good times and bad, and we have adopted it as our motto as well:
“It’s just another day in paradise”
And so it is!
