Surfs up, sun’s down, life in a beach town

Bill has finally admitted, after having to get a chest binder to wear so he could put on his socks and shoes, that he probably has some broken ribs. Which brings us to an interesting point in the dirt bike hobby.

I was pregnant with Quinn when he bought the first one, and was NOT thrilled. He was not new to the hobby, having ridden dirt bikes all through his teens and 20′s, but he had given it up after breaking too many bones. So, um, you might ask what made him think that 20 years later, his bones would would be stronger and that riding would be less risky. I asked the same question, and never got a satisfactory answer. He quickly got the boys riding, and the purchase of 3 more bikes followed.

Here he is getting some air;

Part of the deal I made with him was, that if he or anyone else in my family ever broke any bones, including fingers, he would have to sell all the dirt bikes. Hence, his reluctance to get a chest x-ray. No x-ray, no proof of broken bones.

Too bad the injury is more than a bit obvious. He is in a tremendous amount of pain, and then there are the bruises. Good Lord, the bruises. On his face and chest.

When it happened, I waited a day or so before I made the suggestion that he might want to explore a new hobby. He listened and said he would think about it. So, I left it alone. I made a few offhand comments here and there all week, comments about upping his life insurance or how glad I am that I kept my nursing license current as I may have to support our family one day when he is a quadriplegic. He was fairly quiet in his pain.

Then it happened. He asked me to call the eye doctor about getting Lasix done on his eyes, because he thought that getting back into surfing would be fun and he can’t do that with glasses!!!!! Fun????????? Try UNBELIEVABLE, FREAKING WONDERFUL!!!! Have I died and gone to heaven?

There is all kinds of fun talk going on here now. Should we get a beach house? Or maybe a travel trailer to camp on the beach with. Where? Rockport? Port Aransas? We talked about the kids and I spending the summer there, and Bill would travel down on the weekends.

I am so jazzed!! Our boards have been nothing but dust collectors since we left our home in Galveston. We only surf summers and on random trips home to visit family. It used to be our life, and I miss the water terribly.

Did I mention how cool this is? What a dream come true it would be? I have been needing an outlet from our little town, and it seems that we are on our way to a solution to that need!!

Wahine Jody is competely stoked.

Here is Bill in Galveston in the 60′s;

Doesn’t He look exactly like our oldest, Cory?
