Sunday update
The good news is, all of our family members are safe and sound. Aunt C arrived here last night, tired, but well. We are so blessed, as Billy’s cousin (Aunt C’s daughter) decided to ride the storm out in her house…….the house that is just a few blocks behind the Seawall. They were lucky and the house came out with very minimal damage.
Aunt C was not so lucky. The tidal surge came up over 3 feet into her home. She is devastated.
Since Aunt C’s house was flooded, it is a strong possibility that both my MIL and SIL’s homes were also flooded since they are in the same area.
While watching the film footage on TWC, Cory spotted what he believes was Nana’s (Billy’s mom) condo complex up in flames. Billy then said that yes, he had seen some video footage that showed smoke and flames from that area.
We know nothing about how the tidal surge affected us in our hometown. Word is that the surge was 6′, and that it was not going down. In fact it was 6 or so inches higher today than yesterday.
Thank you so much for all your comments and e-mails. I appreciate them so much, and will respond to eveyone in the next couple of days.
May I ask that you please pray for our extended family in the coming weeks. Without electricity in Galveston for possibly weeks or longer, you can just imagine what will become of those houses that were flooded. My heart aches for them.

Dear Jody,
You have been such a good friend to our daughter Kitty (and her family) – she indicated that you all are under much stress and distress with the ravages of the hurricane. We hold you and all your family in our prayerful thoughts and concerns, and wish you safety first, and then a quick return to some sort of being “normal” again.
Warm wishes and gentle hugs,
Kathleen Smith
Hey Jody,
I will def be praying, my beloved Galveston, I was just sick all day yeterday watching. I was so nervouse watching those waves come over the seawall where I have spent so much time over the past years just made me so nervous I had to turn my t.v. off.
It also made me sad to see all the flooding and fire and no one could get to any of it, and it was very clear why people needed to evacuate, I am just so thankful no one was there.
I cannot imagine losing everything and your home being flooded, I am so sorry for your relatives and we willl be praying.
We are getting the huge rains and winds now as I type but I am so grateful that I am safe.
Praying for all of you.
Prayers will continue….so happy everyone is ok.
Continuing to send peace to you and yours!
I’m glad to hear that all is well. You and your extended family will continue to be in my prayers.
Thanks so much for continuing to update. Your poor Nana and Aunt C.
We’re holding you guys in our thoughts and I’ll make sure to drink a toast to you tonight and have an extra coffee for those wihtout electricity.
I know, the suffering I put myself through…
Hang tough (I know you are) and give your family hugs and kisses from us. Well, not Billy. That would just be weird.
Thinking of you and your family, Jody.
Hi Jodi,
We’ve been away, but were watching CNN while we were gone. I was praying all was OK with you and yours. Glad to read your update and my prayers will continue.
Such a disaster.
xo
I kept thinking about Billy’s family when watching the news this weekend. Glad to hear that all are safe, but can only imagine what everyone must face when they are allowed to return. Devastating! Let me know when you hear about your house and when you can return.
Hugs to all of you,
Shelley
Jody and family:
Prayers your way from Kansas.
Jill
Oh Jody I am so glad you are safe and your home is safe, it has been so heavy on my heart for these past days. I cannot believe how it has affected my psyche. Everytime I saw a boat anywhere I thought of Calypso!!
It is sad but I heard before the hurrican hit that Galvaston has a reserve to help rebuild. I have so many questions about some of my favorite places there on the strip across from the seawall that was hit pretty hard and I would love to ask you when the time is right and you can talk more about it. I respect your privacy until you can talk however.
I told my kids I just want to come and be there to volunteer but I am going to wait until the time is right then come later and help, I have the time to do that so I am praying about that in the near future.
Thanks for the update Jody I am so thankful ya’ll are ok. I’ll keep praying.
