Release

Each summer that we have been here, we rescue baby red eared sliders from the herons and gulls. The poor little things don’t seem to have a chance, so we grab 2-4 and bring them to the safety of our home.

They seem to acclimate no problem. They enjoy their little vacation from predation by basking in the sun on our back porch and gorging daily on dried shrimp. Some get semi-friendly, but for he most part they stay skittish, and that is a good thing, because soon enough it is time to go free at the park pond.  We have successfully raised and released one pair last year, and the newest babies have done great as well.

A few weeks ago we released our babies. We had kept them through the winter, and with the threat of cold fronts behind us, it was time.

Bye, bye sweet little baby!

We set them loose at the same time….one swam straight down and out of sight…

And the other swam on the surface wondering when he was going to bump into the side of the tank!

We were so pleased that they did so well over the winter and are now free.

Summer is in full swing here and we are busy beavers.  I can’t believe how long it has been since my last posting!  I have not had time to blog or even read blogs.  Not much new. ….still beaching it and enjoying the sun.  Calypso has a messed up rudder, so no sailing until we haul her and do some work on her.  Surfing, running, bike riding and lots and lots of swimming are going on here.  Vacation time  is around the bend and we are still up in the air about where to go.  Colorado? Utah?  Or maybe a different beach?

Ya just never know with us.  I imagine we might figure it out the day before we leave.  That’s the way we roll, dudes. Todo bueno!!
