The beauty of nursing your child
I just don’t get it. This article states that 25% of all BabyTalk readers were offended by the cover picture of a boob and a baby nursing on it. It is called “BabyTalk” for crying out loud. What the hell do you think is going to be on the cover? Strategic missiles? Nursing is what some babies do. I found the picture gorgeous and it made me wistful and sad that my nursing experience was coming to an end (or so I thought….Miss Mimi has been on a 60 hour binge that has reestablished my supply and now I am not sure what is happening?)
The blogshpere, in its usual flair, has taken it and run with it! Go bloggers! Kateri has a hilarious entry about it here in which she says; “Want to make a statement? Leave this indecency where your children might see it. Want to be a real rebel? Post your own indiscreet nursing picture.”
So, I will.
If 25% of BabyTalk readers are offended by seeing an infant and a boobie, then I will take it one step farther and post todays photos of my 2 1/2 year old, nursing toddler in all her glory. Behold America, the boobie and **gasp** a toddler nursing on it:
Is that not a beautiful thing? I thank God for giving me the opportunity to nurse all 4 of my children. It has been a pleasure and every bit as wonderful as I thought it would be.

Amen to that. I am so excited to be able to nurse in public again soon. Who knew that feeding your kidlet could be so shocking and rebellious?
beautiful photograph! I was trying to be less discrete in mine, but my toddler kept covering my breast with her doll!
I understand your need to change your priorities. I hope you’ll post occasionally, though – I really enjoy reading about you and your family.
Ahhhhh, I read all the blogs in my bookmarks as my almost 20 month old has his morning nurse! I have 6 children and have nursed all of them for different periods of time, 2 years being the longest. Keep it up!
Beautiful picture. I still can’t believe people would think it is gross. You can’t turn on the TV without seeing something sexual and this is gross. Give me a break. I would love to be added to your friends list for flicker. I do enjoy reading your post daily and understand your priorities also. Thanks
Patty
Yeah, my hubbie, sister, mom etc. had quite the verbal discussion about that article. I’m stunned that that’s still happening. That people are still offended. Wow. I think I just might join you and post a photo of my babe nursing. I’ll have to track one down or take one.
Good for you. It’s a very beautiful thing. More power to your… er… nipple…
My youngest just turned one year. My eldest stopped nursing just after he turned a year. I can’t imagine not nursing my youngest at this age. I expect to hit at least two, probably three, and maybe even four years (the week of the fourth birthday is our record).
People really need to get a grip. It’s a breast, fercryinoutloud. We’ve all got them, and the lucky ones amongst us got to use our mothers’ for what they’re designed for.
Beautiful. How i miss nursing my babies. I dn’t miss much else as they grow. But i do miss that.
these pictures tug at my heart and bring tears to my eyes.
Who would have thought that a mother would have a problem with a baby on a breast? Aboslutely beautiful pictures. Right On!
This is beautiful, I wish I could have nursed as long.
I applaud you!
Tonight I searched for a toddler nursing blog, just to keep my spirits up! I am currently nursing an almost 3 yr old myself. While pregnant, I started attending LLL meetings, though my Mom had not nursed me, and my mother-in-law nursed for 6 weeks. The other day, I mentioned that I needed to nurse my daughter for a nap, and she said, “you’re still doing that?!!!” I just ignored it. I thank God I am still nursing, as last week, she had a touch of flu and wouldn’t eat, but did nurse & got over it really quick of course. Nursing is a natural thing, made by God, why can’t people understand that its better for their child than the ‘fake’ thing (formula)??? Again, thanks for the encouragment. Beautiful pics.
)
GO with the Nature . not against nature. This is indeed beautiful.
Those pictures are absolutely beautiful!! It makes me sad I don’t have any of my son nursing (he’s 19 months and just quit). He did nurse this morning after resisting it for five days. We’ll see. thanks for sharing I love it!
I love your blog too! I need to quit reading and go to bed.
