Just a warning Jody. My sister and her husband bought a sail boat four years ago. Two years ago, the minute her husband turned 55, he took early retirement, sold their house, gave everything away except special things (like pictures, etc, which are now stored in my garage) and they took off in their boat from San Diego, CA. They have had a great time but we miss them so much. They come home at the end of May and stay until mid November and then off they go again. My bil is much more enthusiatic about this dream than my sister, but she is happy to live his dream for a few years. They are in Costa Rica right now, livin the good life. Just thought I would share.

Wow, they look beautiful. I especially like the ones with blue sky and blue water, considering it is now -35 here in northern Minnesota.

Boats and water = dollars.
Boats and salt water = lots of dollars.
Woodboats and salt water = cubic dollars.
Make it a non wood boat where all can sleep away from the weather.

I bet you'd like a Hans Christian (hanschristianyacht.com). I *love* those, but oh my they are pricey.

Be thankful you are looking to purchase a boat. My husband has a delusion of building his own boat. He is actively working toward this delusion. He has boat plans! *CUSTOM* boat plans! As it is he's rather a workaholic (because he really loves what he does) and doesn't have enough time for the regular house projects, time as a family, etc. This process will be interesting.

And - regarding "The Owl and the Pussycat" - I read/said that poem to my son at bedtime for years. Years. (Mostly) without laughing. Have you see the Jan Brett-illustrated book. Luscious illustrations.

That was our main problem too when wanting that boat a couple of months ago...we couldn't agree what we'd use it for. He wanted to keep moving and fish with it (he said he gets seasick when still) and I wanted to stop and snorkel and spend days just having fun, jumping off the boat, etc. Funny, huh

good luck with the search! I want a widgeon. nothing special, just a little play-around-in-the-water boat that is easy to sail, and maneuvers easily.

I get anxious about getting to the mooring with the big boats - it's kinda like worrying about driving a van through a crowded downtown.
